Lowenna, also known as La barungi, is an upcoming Ugandan artist with a euphonious voice and has been singing since she about 11 years old. She peaked after the Pearl Of Africa Star Search in Uganda. Her latest single Somebody to love was released on February 11th, 2022.
The track “somebody to love” leans into the themes like loneliness, fear, the search for love all of which heavily resonates with today’s millenial or GenZ that is looking for somebody to hold onto and these perfectly flow in with the lyrics – ” Cause am standing all alone here, everybody’s gone – I am lost and I keep looking for some place I belong….”
” When I was writing the song, the flow was almost instantaneous. The melody came to me while I was showering the night before I started writing, and I remember singing it over and over again so I wouldn’t forget 😂 I recorded a little voice note on my phone and the following day I used that to build the pre-chorus. After that the rest came pretty easy since I had a lot to say. I went to studio the next day and Sam and I worked on the sound together, made tweaks, and that’s how the song came to be.”
The artist’s favourite line is “I know you’re afraid, but it’s time to walk away“. As humans, it’s in our nature to be afraid of the unknown and stay in whatever is comfortable, so this line is a way of encouraging people to take a leap of faith and welcome beautiful new things in their lives.
The artist got help and guidance from a group of incredible people, who she can’t thank enough for their support and belief in her.
